AN: I hope to have improvements in my blog and myself this year. I haven’t made New Year’s Resolutions for some years now and this is a good time to start again. In addition, this is the very first book tag I have created
1. How many books do you promise to read?
As usual, I am gonna go with 25. It’s a reachable goal for someone who has to go to work. Besides, for some reason, I haven’t been able to conquer that goal for sometime,
2. Which genre which isn’t your favorite will you try to read more?
Historical-biographical classics. When I was in the university, it was second nature for us to read classics, buy classics, and analyze classics but that resulted to me being revolted to them. I couldn’t help but associate them to grades, spot-on analysis and hard-to-please teachers. then again some classic fantasy novels ended up being my favorites. However, historical-biographical ones are still quite vapid for me-I repeat before I bruise someone’s ego, for me– and I find it difficult to look for an interesting one.
3. Which genre will you try to force on a friend?
Historical-biographical too so I can have a friend someone to share the frustration with.
4. What book/s will you take with you when traveling?
Most people I know bring light-reading materials like their favorite novels or comic books. I plan to take with me easy-recipe books this year. As I am not getting any younger, I want to learn as many dishes as I can because the ones I know I can count with my fingers. Also, it will be fun to search for local recipe books in different places. But that’ s a different story.
5. How often will you post book-reviews?
I intend to post book reviews once or twice a month. I have promised to do a lot of things for my blog and in its nature, it involves other things apart from books so I cannot do more often than that. Also, I might need to schedule posts again for that to work. Everything has to wait though because I am still in the middle of Harry Potter Marathon.
6. How often will you read book reviews?
I read book reviews after I read and review novels myself. Since that is a factor, then following #5, once or twice a month.
7. What book-related activity/ event will you promise to participate in?
Going to public libraries will be great. For some reason, I noticed I wasn’t able to frequent libraries apart from my own recently. It will be fun to see any improvement in equipment and selection of books.
Book donation program. I remember visiting a library several years ago and the experience was terrible. Books were so scarce and outdated and I’m not so sure if the younger generation can find relevance there. These days, internet provides them the information they need and coffee shops give the perfect ambiance, but I still believe that the atmosphere in the library is different and it will be great if younger people can appreciate that. One good way to ensure it is fill libraries with better books.
Literary seminar. With my job, the chance of attending one is 5%. So I hope this year, I can go to one. Since this is a resolution tag, I will make it happen.
